Curtis McClain

Chesapeake-Curtis McClain was born to Ida and Artis McClain on Dec. 24, 1940. When he was 8 years old, his mother married Spencer Reed who raised Curtis as his own son. Curtis was called home to eternal glory on Saturday, January 15, 2011. Curtis graduated from Bronx Vocational High School in Bronx, NY. He completed five years apprenticeship training in electrical engineering and became a certified A Journeyman Electrician. He retired from the International Brotherhood Electrical Workers Local 3 after thirty-six years of employment. Following his retirement, Curtis and his wife relocated to Chesapeake, VA and became faithful members of Grove Baptist Church. Curtis was active in the Seniors Fun Friday Ministry at Grove Church. He attended Jackie’s Daycare in Chesapeake, VA. Curtis was a member of Pride of Jamaica Elks Lodge No. 217 in Jamaica, NY and the Greater Deep Creek Elks Lodge No. 1033 in Chesapeake, VA. He was also a former member of the Aurlzie Police Department in Bronx, NY and Lewis Howard Latimer Association of Black Electricians in Bronx, NY. He also served as President of Key Club in Bronx, NY. He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents, Ruth and James Knight, and one son, Emmanuel Hunter. Curtis leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 11 years, Patricia McClain; a daughter, Shell Branch (Brian), of Chesapeake, VA; four sons, Todd McClain (Sandra) of London, Bruce McClain (Sharon) of NY; Dracy McDonald and Ali McDonald (Sakari) of Syracuse, NY; a sister, Janice Greene (Booker) of Brooklyn, NY, a brother, Anthony Reed (Linda) of Chesapeake, VA; 18 grandchildren and two aunts; Dallas Lewis (Fred) of Maryland and Barbara Falk of Crewe, VA; three uncles, Sherman Knight and Matthew Knight (Jackie) of Crewe, VA and Warren Knight (Gladys), of Philadelphia, PA; a daughter in law, Renah Hunter, and a host of other relatives and friends., Viewing will be held on Friday, January 21, 2011 from 4 pm until 7 pm at J. T. Fisher Funeral Services, 1080 N George Washington Hwy., Chesapeake, VA. A life celebration service will be held at noon on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at Grove Baptist Church, 5910 W Norfolk Road; Portsmouth with Dr. Melvin O. Marriner officiating.
