Catherine Sarah Jones

Catherine Sarah Isaac Jones passed away at the age of 96 on October 19, 2025, in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She was born on August 20, 1929, in Orangeburg, South Carolina, to the late Mr. Rudolph and Mrs. Clarissa Isaac. Affectionately known as “Momma,” “Aunt Catherine,” and “Grandma,” Catherine lived a life filled with love, faith, and family. She now joins her beloved husband of 72 years: James Howard Jones, Sr.; five of their 11 children: daughter Barbara Jones McCoy and sons Kevin Jones, Darryl Jones, Reginald Jones, and Randy Jones; granddaughter: Cameron Ceceilia Jones, two grandsons: Tyrann Jones and Timothy Jones; and her sisters Gloria Jean Isaac and Vernell Isaac Burrus, who all preceded her in death. Catherine is survived by her daughters Clarissa Jones and Renita Jones Prince (Dr. Kevin) and sons James H. Jones, Jr. (Paula), Robert Jones, Sr. (Pamela), Ray Jones, Sr. (Coreen), and her baby boy Clifton Jones, Sr. (Pamela); and grandchildren raised in the home, Stephanie Jones Harris, Tracey Jones, Ray Jones, Jr., Taheria Jones Melvin, and Tramica Jones; her late husband’s brothers and sisters whom she saw as children of her own; and a countless host of grand, great grand, and great great-grandchildren who will forever cherish her memory. Catherine was a beloved member of New Mount Olive Baptist Church in Chesapeake, Virginia. She worked faithfully alongside her husband at Jones Carpet Shop, located on 35th and Granby Street in Norfolk, Virginia, where they served their community for many years. And she was also a respected employee of Virginia Pilot, where she dedicated over 10 years of service. A devoted wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and friend, Catherine was the heart of her family. Catherine’s home was more than just a place—it was a refuge of warmth, laughter, steadfast love and legacy. Her home was always open—a place of warmth, laughter, and love—where generations were raised under her guidance. When joyful, she was known to dance with an infectious laugh and spirit that brightened any room. Catherine’s life was one of service, strength, and unwavering love for her family. Her legacy will live on through all of us who had the honor of knowing her. The funeral wake is Friday, November 7, 2025, from 4-7 p.m., at New Mount Olive Baptist Church in Chesapeake, Virginia. The memorial service is Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 11 a.m., at Mount Gilead Missionary Baptist Church in Norfolk, Virginia. The burial will follow the service at Calvary Cemetery in Norfolk, Virginia, where she will be laid to rest by her husband. Following the burial, the repast honoring her life will be held at Mount Gilead Missionary Baptist Church in Norfolk, Virginia.
