Catherine Rudd Corbin

Catherine Rudd Coleman Corbin, 73, of Chesapeake, VA who was born in Halifax, NC to the late Howard and Roberta Rudd, slipped peacefully away to be with the Lord on Friday, September 16, 2016. She was predeceased by her husband Cleveland Corbin, brother Elton, sister Deloris, and her ex-husband and children's father William Coleman. She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter Adrienne Hardy-Daniels (Rev. Dwayne) and son Rev. Jeffrey Coleman (Elizabeth), 4 step-daughters, Olethia Corbin, Diane Boone (Calvin) Teressa Gore, Melessa Perry (Paul), 4 grandchildren, Schuyler, Johnay, Tristen, and Chancellor, 2 great grandchildren, Zy'Asia and Skyla, 6 step-grandchildren, 8 step-great grandchildren, 1 sister Josephine Turner (Bruce), 1 brother James Rudd (Denise), 1 uncle Jesse Rudd of Halifax NC, four special friends Lorraine and Howard Smith, Harriette Riddick, Georgia Bates and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends. Catherine was a 1961 graduate of Booker T. Washington high school, and a 1965 graduate of Norfolk State College. Catherine retired from Norfolk Public Schools after 33 years of educating elementary school students. She accepted Christ at a young age and continued in the faith as a member of Celestial Baptist Church, in Portsmouth, VA where her ministry continued with the youth on the Lucille Wiggins Education Ministry and ministry of service with the Senior Usher Board. She was also an active member of the Sassy Snappers Red Hatters, the Between the Pages Book Club, and the LaWanda Club. You would often find her playing a competitive game of scrabble, working a crossword puzzle, reading the newspaper or a book from cover to cover, showing off her many collections of apples, Angels, figurines of children reading, or her collection of innumerable shoes. Catherine also enjoyed traveling across the world enjoying trips to Nigeria, France, Italy and Spain, but proclaimed there was no place like home among all her family and friends. Catherine was the eldest of 5 children and the backbone of her family, often sharing her words of wisdom or tutoring a young relative. We can all find solace in remembering her huge heart and no-nonsense advice, along with herfashionista sense of style in clothes, shoes and matching accessories.
