Barbara Turner Robinson

With profound love and gratitude for a life beautifully lived, Barbara Turner Robinson peacefully entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on July 20, 2026, at the age of 83. Barbara was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, beloved sister, aunt, treasured friend, and compassionate nurse. Her life was marked by unwavering faith, selfless service, and unconditional love. Her warm smile, infectious sense of humor, kind heart, and steadfast devotion to God and family leave a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew her. Barbara was born on June 15, 1943, in Portsmouth, Virginia, to the late Louise Banks Turner and Vernon Eugene Turner. Raised in a loving Christian home, she learned the values of faith, compassion, and service that guided her throughout her life. She attended Portsmouth Public Schools, graduating from I.C. Norcom High School in 1961, and earned her nursing degree from Norfolk State University in 1965. Barbara began her career at Norfolk General Hospital before serving the City of Norfolk for 37 years as a registered nurse specializing in epidemiology with the Norfolk Public Health Department. On October 17, 1965, Barbara married the love of her life, George Thomas Robinson. Their nearly 61-year marriage was a beautiful example of faith, commitment, and enduring love. Together they built a Christ-centered home and raised two children: George Kevin Robinson (Ann) of Hackettstown, New Jersey, and Lisa Diann Robinson of Portsmouth, Virginia. An avid reader and writer, Barbara’s greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted mother and a proud “Nana” to Allison Nicole Robinson-Wilson and Christopher Julian Thomas Wilson. She delighted in celebrating their accomplishments, encouraging their dreams, and creating cherished memories. Her love, wisdom, and faith will continue to live on through them. For more than 50 years, Barbara faithfully served at Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Portsmouth, Virginia. Her many ministries included Chairperson of the Deaconess Ministry, Sunday School teacher, Discipleship Evangelism teacher, Women’s Fellowship leader, Hospitality Ministry, Women’s Service Auxiliary, Board of Christian Education, Couples Ministry, Golden Age Ministry, Youth Rap Youth Fellowship Coordinator, and Prayer Partner Warrior Ministry. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Louise B. Turner and Vernon E. Turner; her sisters, Mary T. Kemp and Helen T. Mack; and her brothers, Vernon Turner and Raymond Turner. She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband, George; her loving children, Kevin (Ann) and Lisa; her beloved grandchildren, Allison and Christopher; her cherished nieces, Denise Abrams and Martel Owes; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, extended family members, and dear friends. Barbara was a faithful follower of Christ, a woman of prayer, and a compassionate caregiver whose life reflected humility, grace, and service. Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in God’s promise that she is absent from the body and present with the Lord. Her legacy of faith, kindness, and unconditional love will remain forever in the hearts of those who were blessed to know and love her.
