Arvene Spratt Jr.

Chesapeake-Mr. Arvene Lee Spratt, Jr., 74, of the 1200 block of Sir Galahad Drive passed away peacefully on July 3, 2011. Mr. Spratt was born November 6, 1937 in Bivins, TX; the second of seven children born to the union of Arvene L. Spratt, Sr. and Laura Bell Minor. Mr. Spratt was predeceased by his wife; Sylvia Marie Spratt, his parents, Arvene Spratt, Sr. and Laura Spratt; his brother and sister-in-law, Troy Lee Spratt and Freda Phillips Spratt. Mr. Spratt received his salvation at an early age, whereas, he united with the Union Hill Baptist Church in Texarkana, TX. Mr. Spratt loved the LORD, and was an active member of New Revelation Church in Chesapeake, VA where he served as a Trustee. Mr. Spratt started his military career as a reservist in the United States Marine Corp while he was still a junior in High School doing his two week summer drills at Camp Pendleton, after graduation from Dunbar High School enlisted in the United States Navy. He proudly served his country for over twenty years retiring as an Electrician’s Mate Chief. Mr. Spratt retired after twenty five years of service from QED Systems, Inc. He was an active member of the Camelot Senior Citizen group where he currently held the position of president. He was a volunteer in the mentoring group “RAINBOWS” at Camelot Elementary. Loving memories of Mr. Spratt are cherished by his son; Gregory Spratt, Sr. (Charlene) of Norfolk, VA; daughter, Jolande Spratt of Chesapeake, VA; three grandchildren; Gregory Spratt, Jr. and Travis Spratt of Suffolk, VA and Sade Spratt of Norfolk, VA. In addition, Mr. Spratt is affectionately remembered by five sisters; Lucille Hamilton (John) and Alva Louise Spratt of Fort Worth, TX; Francille Williams and Nellie Dawson (Arrie) of Texarkana, TX; and Princess Hunter of Nash, TX; three uncles: Tommie Spratt (Ruth) of Texarkana, TX, Oliver Spratt (Carol) of Brownwood, TX, and Tommie Spratt, Jr. (Geraldine) of Katy, TX; and one aunt, Margaret Lavert of Seattle, WA; sisters-in-law: Thelma Walker, Ameriles Brinson, Donna Brinson, Sandra Brinson, and Joyce Brinson; brothers-in-law: Haywood Alexander, Sr., Ardonul Brinson, Freddie Joe Brinson, James Brinson, Jeffrey Brinson; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, God-nieces, God-nephews and a host of friends.
