Waverly Barrett

A dedicated son, brother, uncle, friend, father, and husband. A great man on earth who is now a great angel in heaven. Waverly E. Barrett Sr. was born in Norfolk, Va. On January 8, 1942. He earned his wings on April 10, 2018. Waverly is one of several children born to Waverly Barrett and preceded in death by his mother, Lilly Mae Barrett and recently departed brother Cecile Barrett. Waverly grew up in Norfolk, VA. where he attended several schools and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. From the age of 13 through his young age of 73, he worked for multiple companies, beginning with General Foam and Plastics and ending with Food Lion for the last 30 years until he became ill. It was at General Foam and Plastics where he met the love of his life, Barbara Godfrey Barrett. How they met was a fairytale for him. He had saw Barbara at the store once before but did not speak with her but knew he had to meet her. When he saw her again for the second time, his eyes fixed on her and he ran slam into a pole and fell to the floor. Barbara quickly ran over to see if he was okay. Upon his awakening, his eyes fixed on her again and he knew he had to speak. He stated, "Man, I never thought I would see you again! What's your name?" Stunned by his response, Barbara told him her name and there their friendship began. A friendship turned into courtship and six months later their courtship turned into a marriage. Waverly was truly a man of God and loved to hear the word of God. Throughout his life he attended several churches, the first being Bread of Heaven Pastored by Bishop EJ Lillard. After which Waverly and Barbara both joined First Baptist Church South Hill. Waverly's love of God and his life radiated though him and was seen by everyone he met. He would do anything and everything for anyone within his power, all you had to do was ask. Family was the most important thing to him and he had a special relationship with everyone he met. He is truly loved and will truly be missed. To cherish and to continue his love he is survived by his wife of 39 years, Barbara L. Barrett and his five beautiful children: Waverly Barrett (Mary deceased), Karen Brinkley (Chris), Waverly Barrett Jr. (Athena), Monica Wyatt (Lawrence), and Victoria Barrett, three amazing grandchildren: Laylah Wyatt, Kailyn Wyatt, and Trinity Brinkley. Three Godchildren, John Lillard, Crystal Green, and Nataliya Godfrey and a host of brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
