Rev. Dr. Paul Reid, Sr.

Reverend Dr. Paul Reid Sr., 58 of Portsmouth, VA went to join his Lord and Saviour on April 23, 2011. He was born February 26, 1953; in Paterson New Jersey. The son of Mildred Somerville-Reid and the late John Henry Reid Sr. Paul was the 4th eldest of twelve children. He attended the New Jersey School systems. Later he relocated to New England. On June 16th 1973 he married the love of his life, Mary Jean Hathorne of Portland, Maine by way of Jackson, Mississippi. He was an honorably discharged Veteran of the United States Coast Guard. Paul attended the Deliverance Center Bible Institute in the 80’s, where he was ordained after four years. He then went on to attend the University of Southern Maine. Once ordained, Paul taught as a Professor at the Deliverance Center Bible Institute. He went on to own several businesses the last which was Mary Jean’s Bakery; in Virginia Beach, VA where he enjoyed baking with his wife, and provided homemade baked goods to his patrons. He enjoyed his job to the fullest. Paul was predeceased by his three brothers; John, Frank and Gerald Reid. Paul leaves to deeply mourn his passing and to cherish his memory his wife Mary Jean Reid of Portsmouth Virginia; two Daughters, Amena Reid Scott of Chesapeake Virginia and Adina Reid Whittaker of Portsmouth Virginia; a son, Paul Reid Jr. of Corpus Christi, Texas, 6 beautiful grandchildren; Ashanti Scott, Avhantre Scott, Inasha Whittaker, Paul Reid III, Eliana Reid, and Jilliana Reid; sisters, Dr. Mary Ella Graham and her husband, Thomas Graham of Tallahassee, Florida, Stella Reid, Eleanor Reid Woods of Paterson New Jersey, Janet Mayes and her husband, Ronald Mayes, Janice Reid, Barbara Reid Bobbitt; of Warrenton, North Carolina; brothers; James M. Reid and his wife, Celeste Reid, and Anderson Reid of Paterson New Jersey; two aunts, Lucy Carter and Alma Jackson, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. Dr. Reverend Paul Reid Sr. was loved by all people, because he loved all people, just as God commanded us all to love. Paul was patient and kind; he did not envy, nor was he boastful, proud, or self seeking. Paul despised evil and rejoiced in the truth. He trusted in the goodness of others. Paul was hopeful and always persevered. Reverend Dr. Paul Reid Sr. was very much loved, and will be missed by many. A Viewing will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 pm on Sunday May 1st, at J.T. Fisher Funeral Services, 1080 N. George Washington highway, Chesapeake Virginia. A life celebration service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 2nd, at J.T. Fisher Funeral Services Chapel with Master Benjamin F. Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Albert G. Horton Jr. Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
