Patricia Lee James Powell

Patricia “PAT” L. James Powell, 47 was granted her angel wings on June 26, 2012. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that Pat had touched in some small way throughout her short, yet memorable life. Pat’s life would seem too short to many, but those who were touched by her understood that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives. Her gentle smile, sharp wit and many words of encouragement brought so much joy to everyone she met. Although tall in stature and stout of heart, Pat had the ability give us all such courage and hope, always reminding us of the faithfulness of God. Pat loved any type of puzzle, board games and spending quality time with family and friends. She also enjoyed reading and confessing the word of God. Pat received Jesus at a very early age and later rededicated her life to Jesus in 1996. She united with Trinity Faith Diamond and was an involved and dedicated member. She was also tirelessly involved with many ministries in the church as well as community and Civic organizations. In August of 1999, Pat answered the call to preach and minister the word of God under the leadership of Dr. O.L. Cromwell II. She was a constant and faithful servant of the Lord to the very end. Pat was educated in the Northampton County School system, Portsmouth Public Schools, as well as earning her Associates’ Degree in Business from Phoenix University On-Line to continue her education. She garnered extensive knowledge in the Property Management field. She held various positions in this area. She was employed at Drucker & Faulk, LLC, Portsmouth Redevelopment & Housing Authority, First Oakmont North Townhomes, and Harbor Group Management Company. During her employment, she received various certifications such as; Registered Apartment Manager (RAM), Certified Occupancy Specialist (COS), Certified Low Income Housing Tax Credit Compliance (TaCCS), and Notary of the Public for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Pat is survived by her loving and dedicated husband, Robert J. Powell of Portsmouth, Va.; Sons; Keven L. James and wife MaShonda of Howard County, Md., Xavier M. Powell of Portsmouth, Va.; Daughter Cinnamon P. Middleton of Portsmouth, Va; Brother Harold L. James, Jr. of Portsmouth, Va.; Adopted Mother Margaret McNeil of Portsmouth, Va.; numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and other relatives as well as friends. She always had a special place in her heart for Grandchildren Azaria S. Porter, Christian I. Turner-James, and Ke’Asia N. Moses. Pat was preceded in death by her Mother, Mary E. James and her adopted sister, Sharron A. White.
