Minister Eva Taylor Miller

Eva was born on February 6, 1930 to the late Oscar and Arlene Taylor, natives of Portsmouth, Virginia. She was educated in the Portsmouth Public School system and later in life attended Tidewater Community College. She was united in marriage to the late Charles Roland Miller, Sr. and from that union, fifteen children were born. After many years of being a wonderful house wife, she decided to join the work force. She became a Certified Nursing Assistant for Manning Convalescent Home in the Parkview area for 27 years before retiring. Her love for nursing was so great that after retirement, she became the neighborhood’s nurse, caring for the sick in our community. Minister Miller loved God and joined Twine’s Memorial Holy Temple Church to receive spiritual instruction for her continued growth. She was a Sunday-School teacher and pianist; a member of the Senior and Gospel Choirs, Usher Board, Missionary Circle, and the Noon Day Prayer Band. Minister Miller had a love for writing and through this love, she wrote four short novels that she shared with her family and friends. Eva’s love for Church and God was evident and a call to serve in a greater capacity was in order. At the recommendation of Bishop Thomas E. Talley, she was appointed to the position of Lay Missionary for her church on January 1995. In June of 1996, she was credentialed as Missionary, and in the early 2000’s was licensed as a Minister of the Virginia District, United Holy Church of America. She is predeceased by her husband, Charles Roland Miller, Sr., daughter, Shirley L. Baskerville; four siblings, Katherine Taylor, Lizzie Mae Vann, Roscoe Taylor, and Joseph “Buddy” Taylor. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, fourteen children, Arlethia Jackson, (John) of Jacksonville, Fl., Charles Roland Miller Jr. of Chesapeake, VA, Wanda Miller of NY, Maurice O. Miller (Joan) of Atlanta, GA, Denise Parsons and Gwendolyn Miller, both of Portsmouth, VA, Valorie Wesson (Rodney) and Maria Miller both of Chesapeake, VA, Cynthia Wilson (Michael) of Portsmouth, VA, Harold Miller of Suffern, NY, Teresa Miller of Portsmouth, VA, Keith Miller of Detroit, MI, Carey Miller of Dillwyn, VA and Wesley Miller Sr. (Cynthia) of Portsmouth, VA., Forty- three (43) grandchildren, fifty-two (52) great-grandchildren, fifteen (15) great great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, Kay Barner (Curtis) and Jacqueline Haywood; a faithful cousin, Alsinda Lide of Baltimore, Maryland; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and a friends.
