Jacob Rivers, Jr.

In Loving Memory of Jacob ... Jacob Rivers, Jr., the son of the late Jacob Rivers, Sr. and Mrs. Emily Washington Rivers, was born on October 24, 1937 in McClellanville, SC. He entered into eternal rest on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at Maryview Medical Center in Portsmouth, VA. Jacob received his education from Lincoln High School in McClellanville, SC. He accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior at an early age and worked diligently with the ministry of Bethel AME Church in McClellanville where he was a faithful member. In 1954, he enlisted in to the US Navy and moved to Norfolk, Virginia. In 1959, he was joined in holy matrimony to his lovely and dedicated wife, Clara. To this union, three sons were born: Leonard (Denice) of Lancaster, CA, Michael of Glendale, AZ, and Ivan (Melody) of Suffolk, VA. He also had three grandchildren: Patrice Rivers, Gerard Rivers, and Ginelle Rivers. In 1974, he retired from the United States Navy as a Chief Petty Officer First Class. During these honorable years, he served as a Master Electrician. He attended Community College in Norfolk, VA. He was a faithful member of New First Baptist Church (Taylorsville). Affectionately, known as "Mr. Jake/Junie/Mr. Rivers," he performed many duties for his neighbors and friends throughout his community and will be dearly missed. Jacob was preceded in death by his siblings, Madelyn Manigault, Jane Rivers, and Theodore Rivers. He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife of 55 years, Clara Rivers; three sons, Leonard Rivers (Denice) of Lancaster, CA, Michael Rivers of Glendale, AZ, and Ivan Rivers (Melody) of Suffolk, VA; three grandchildren, Patrice Rivers, Gerard Rivers, and Ginelle Rivers; siblings, Mitchell Rivers (Betty Sue), Julia Singleton, Margaret Jenkins (Hon. Judge Robert N. Jenkins), Betty Rivers (Cameron Barron), Rickie Rivers, Lindia Rivers, Emily Graham (Billy); sisters-in-law, Rosemary Rivers, Delores Weston (James), Emily Woodbury (Ervin), Berta Winns (Lee); brothers-in- law, Adam Garrett Jr. and George Garrett; two very Special Aunts, Rose Singleton of McClellanville, SC and Helen Campbell of Summerville, SC and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
