Hurlen R. Bly

Hurlen Ronell Bly, 65, transitioned to his eternal home on July 17, 2019. Son of the late Vivian Cassell Bly and Willie E. Bly Sr., Hurlen was raised on Galberry Road in Deep Creek, where he grew up surrounded by aunts, uncles, cousins, and lifelong friends. Having accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior, he was a longtime member of - Trinity Faith Diamond Church. Hurlen was a 1971 graduate of Deep Creek High School and attended Norfolk State University, until deciding to join the United States military. He learned the meaning of hard work at a young age, and mastered the knowledge and skills necessary to provide for his family. While in high school, Hurlen worked alongside his father and siblings as a cook at the once famous Swing Inn. Hurlen later enlisted in U. S. Army where he served for several years. Following his military service, Hurlen transitioned to a civilian career with Raytheon as an electronics mechanic before serving in the same capacity for the Department of the Navy until his retirement in 2017, after 30 plus years. Hurlen was a loving husband and father who adored his wife and daughters. He was a devoted gardener who loved to talk "gardening". He was also an avid deer hunter who eagerly awaited the opening of hunting season. In his retirement, Hurlen spent much of his time gardening, hunting, and surrounding himself with his family, friends, and cousins on Galberry Road. Taking great joy in the simple things in life, he willingly shared the bounty of his harvests with family, friends, and neighbors. Known to pick and joke at times, Hurlen would willingly go out of his way to help others. He was one of a kind and to know him was to love him. Hurlen is survived by his .wife Gayle Bly of 39 years, and daughters Patrice Noyan (Neville) and Patrina Highsmith (Clarence). He leaves to cherish his memories his four grandchildren Isaac, Christian, Iris N oyan, and Turner Highsmith. Hurlen will be forever remembered by his siblings Donald (Gloria), Eugene (Mary), Kenneth (Versie), Roslyn Bly, Keturah Johnson (Van), Gwen Parker, and sister-in-law Pamela Turner; godchildren, Raejean Wallace, and Joshua Rountree, a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and his loyal dog Ophelia.
