Erica Shena McCoy

Erica Shena McCoy- 39. On Monday, April 10, 2023, she left this earthly life and went to live with Jesus Christ. Erica was born and raised in Suffolk, Virginia to Gary W. and Faultine D. Rodgers. She also attended school in Suffolk and was a 2001 graduate of Nansemond River High School. In 2005, she received her Bachelor of Science degree from the Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. She loved math and chemistry. At Nansemond River High School, she was a member of the marching band for 4 years. It was her joy even when the routine seemed tiresome. We believe she enjoyed being in school and hanging out with all her friends she met while being there. Both the students and teachers loved Erica. Erica accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age. Upon her passing, she was a very faithful member at Greater Love Outreach Ministries, in Portsmouth, Virginia. She really loved her church family. While living in Maryland, she also attended The Ark of Safety Christian Church in, Upper Marlboro, Maryland under the leadership of Pastor Anthony Muse. Erica was a lover of God and people. She was a very lovable person. She was a very hard and dedicated worker. She started her career at Golden Corral Restaurant, then to Octapharma Plasma Inc., and ended at the Red Cross as a Phlebotomist. She was also a very dedicated employee as well on all her jobs. On April 15, 2017, she was joined in holy matrimony to the love of her life James A. McCoy. She loved her family deeply and did all that she could regardless of her health to prove that to them. Now although James is a “Red-Skin, Commander” fan, Erica still loved him, and she was faithful as a “Dallas Cowboy” fan for life…LOL They were loving rivalries when it came to the NFL teams. Her favorite colors are “Cowboy” blue and yellow. Erica had lots of friends and loved ones who benefited from the ample supply of love and compassion that she shared with them. Erica knew that nothing could separate her from God’s love, therefore the same applied to those that God brought her to love. Before she had her own children, Erica was a babysitter, and a mentor to many other children. She sacrificed her time, energy and even money to all the children she helped and cared for. She was willing to invest her time, energy and life to those who she felt needed it just as much as she did. “Aunt Erica and Ma”, as many called her, was a guiding light to those who needed a friend or a support system where no support was available. Your family became her family, and it was pure unconditional love, and free of charge. Her passion for youth and mentoring those young people as much as possible made her an asset to every community she encountered. We all will miss you so very much! We know we will see you again. Erica was preceded in death by her grandparents, Bishop James Rodgers, Deacon Cleveland and Eldress Evoria Watson, uncles: Elder Kenneth, Lorenzo, Rozelle, Joe and Adolph; sister-in-law Pamela Betha; Godmother: Mildred Copeland Erica leaves to cherish her precious memories, her devoted husband, Mr. James A. McCoy, her daughters, Le’Asia, E’myiah and Blessyn McCoy, also Dayzanae Artis; Sons: TJ, Isaac and Jacob; Parents: Apostle Gary W. Rodgers and Prophetess Faultine D. Rodgers; Grandmother: Mother Ada L. Rodgers; Sister: First Lady Shawneeque L. Little(Pastor Raymond Little Jr.) Brothers: Gary Lamont and Nathan Jermel Rodgers; Aunts and Uncles: Ruby Rodgers , Alice Faulk, Linda Watson; Uncles: David (Laverne) Watson; Tyrone (Janice) Rodgers; and Reginald (Suzette) Rodgers; Nephew- Joshua; Nieces: Ameerah, Kaliah and Hope Little; Best friends/Sister-cousins: Jammie, Nikki, Olivia, Jennifer, Tiara, Tracy and Daveta; and niece-cousins, Xuine and Gracie; some of the god-children; Autumn, Jalen, Naeem and Crystal; Godparents: Darryl and Patricia Lane; Big brother-JP Lilliston; church family and a host of family and friends we can’t even mention here. If your name is not here, it’s not because she did not love and value your relationship.
