Elvis "Popcorn" Peterson

Elvis Walker Peterson, affectionately known by family and friends as “Popcorn,” peacefully passed away in Chesapeake, Va., on June 10, 2016 with his wife at his side. He was born on January 21, 1957 in Portsmouth, Va., the fifth child of Walker Franklin Peterson and Mildred Boone Peterson. Elvis was educated in the public schools of Portsmouth and graduated from Manor High School, Portsmouth in 1975. He was employed by Norfolk Naval Shipyard for 37 years as a Production Zone Manager. He retired in December 2013. He accepted the Lord as his personal Savior at an early age, and was baptized at New Bethel Baptist Church in Portsmouth, Va. He was a professional, good-humored energetic person that took the initiative and went the extra mile to make sure that the job was done and done right. He was one of the meekest men you would ever want to meet. He rejoiced in doing good for others. He loved his cars, going to the race track and his Corvette family. He was a member of the Custom Classic Corvette Club of Chesapeake, Va. Elvis was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and he cherished his relationships with his many friends. He was an avid Redskin fan. He was preceded in death by his father, brother, Theodore (Carol) Peterson; his maternal and paternal grandparents. Elvis leaves to cherish his memories and celebrate his life, his lovely wife of five years, Brenda Sharp Peterson; one son, Donte Yancey, Chesapeake; mother, Mildred Boone Peterson, Portsmouth; two step-daughters, Averie L. Jenkins, Colerain, N.C., and Alycia “Racha” Jenkins-Bond, Bremerton, Wa.; two step-sons, Larry M. Sharp (Theresa), Carrollton, Ga., Gregory D. Taylor, Waldorf, Md.; two sisters, Yvonne Peterson Bremby, Chesapeake, and Rev. Dr. Wilma Frisco, Cleveland, Ohio; two brothers, James (Evelyn) Peterson, Bushkill, Pa. and William (Christine) Peterson, Suffolk, Va.; a sister-in-law, Emma Floyd Sharp, a brother-in-law Elijah Sharp, III, Portsmouth, Va.; an aunt Elizabeth Peterson Carter, Suffolk, Va.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends.
