Dorethea Turner

On Friday, August 28, 2015, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend quietly and peacefully entered into eternal rest. Dorethea Thome Turner, affectionately called "Doe" was born on January 13, 1950 in Portsmouth, V A., to Nana Ruth Suggs Thome and Frank C. Thome, Sr. She was the third oldest child to a family of 4 brothers and 1 sister. She was educated in Portsmouth Public Schools and attended I.C. Norcom High School. She also enrolled in classes at the former Portsmouth General Hospital in pursuit of becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant. She attended Ebenezer Baptist Church in Portsmouth, where her mother played for the Sunday School for many years. Doe was employed at the Portsmouth General Hospital as a Nursing Assistant and Housekeeper. She also worked as a housekeeper at Beverly Manor Nursing Home. Dorethea was formerly married to Robert Samuel Turner and to this union was born three daughters - Thelmetria, Towanda and Tracy. In October 1969, she gave birth to twin boys - William Anthony Turner (Richardson) and Craig Antonio Turner. Doe enjoyed life to the fullest and didn't mind speaking her mind. Her favorite past times were watching western movies, listening to Michael Jackson and music from the 1970's. She would get a good laugh in joking with her family. She made the best homemade cornbread, stuffing and gravy, chicken and dumplings and sweet potato pies. Her children and brothers can attest to the good cooking that she did. We will forever cherish everything that she taught us. She gave her best and we thank God for what she meant to us. Her life, love and legacy will live on forever. She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters Ret. Battalion Chief The1metria Michaelides, Towanda Irby and Tracy Robinson; one son - Bishop William Anthony-Otis Richardson; her two sons - in - law - Herbert "Herb" Robinson, Jr., and Ret. Assistant Chief George Michaelides; one sister - Nina Ruth Jones; four brothers - Jesse Thome, Estes Thome, Frank Thorne and Nathan Thome; 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, cousins and special friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her son Craig Antonio Turner.
