Dennis Hart

On Saturday, February 19, 2022, our precious husband, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, Dennis Tornesis Hart was called home to be with the Lord.Dennis was born on October 14, 1957, to the late Amelia and Ervin Bernard Hart Sr. in Portsmouth, VA. He was educated in the Portsmouth Public School System and continued his education at Virginia State University and Tidewater Community College, where he received his degree in Water Treatment. Dennis was employed and retired from the Portsmouth Water Department after 25 years of faithful and dedicated service to the city. He later pursued a passion for driving and went to work for Waterworks and Dominio’s Pizza to pass the time. Dennis accepted Christ into his life at an early age. He was a lifetime member of the family church, First Baptist Church (Elm Avenue) of Portsmouth, Virginia. He was a member of the Church Security Ministry. You could find him any given Sunday in the church parking lot. Outside of family and friends, Dennis had a love for Jazz and the Pittsburg Steelers. There was no greater Steelers fan! He was predeceased by his two sisters, Ervina Miller and Carlinda “Kay-Kay” Hammond; three in-laws, Viola and Earnest Moore Sr., Lamont Rodney and great niece, CyLyia Stringer. Dennis leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted and loving wife of 25 years, Martha Hart, Chesapeake, VA; one brother, Ervin “Buster” Hart Jr. (Rosa), Richmond, VA; two children, Austin Hart (Robin), Atlanta, GA and Sophia Hawkins (Demetrius), Portsmouth, VA; a devoted nephew, Erik Hammond, Portsmouth, VA; nine grandchildren, Olivia Shields-Walker, Norfolk, VA, Shamyah Price, Portsmouth, VA, Jorydan Hart, Chesapeake, VA, Carma Hart, Atlanta, GA, Christian Hart, North Carolina, Lincoln and Langston Hart, Atlanta, GA, Cameryn and Symone Hawkins, Portsmouth, VA; first great-grandchild, Noah Shields, Norfolk, VA; three brothers-inlaw, Ernest Moore Jr., East St. Louis, IL, Charles Moore (Francesca), Rock City Falls, NY and Maurice Moore (Carol), Arlington, TX; two sisters-in-law, Harriet Moore, East St. Louis, IL and Astrid Moore-Roney (Lamont), Dinwiddie, VA; two devoted friends, Freddie Sykes and Victor Worrell; goddaughter, Kesha Pollard and godson, Nick Daughtry; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friend. He will truly be missed.
