Charlotte Ann Creekmur

Charlotte Ann Creekmur went to her heavenly home to be with The Lord on January 21, 2019. Charlotte, a lifelong resident of Chesapeake, Virginia was born to the late John R. Creekmur and Lottie Beatrice Miller Creekmur on June 5, 1932. She matriculated through Norfolk County Public School System and attended I.C. Norcom High School where she was an accomplished trombonist for 4 years; her talent was recognized and enjoyed through frequent solo performances. She graduated in 1949. Charlotte went on to attend Virginia State University and graduated in 1954 with her Bachelor of Arts Degree. Known as Ms. Creekmur to the many families and students she served during her years as an elementary teacher, Charlotte’s commitment and passion as an educator in Chesapeake Public Schools continued for 40 years. She has often been recognized by former students as “the best teacher they have ever had,” an honor that Charlotte modestly received. The wisdom she imparted to others, including her own nieces and nephews, proved to be a lifelong endeavor that she took seriously and gave lovingly. In addition to her career, Charlotte was a lifelong, dedicated member of Divine Baptist Church. Over the years she served in various capacities that included but are not limited to Sunday school teacher, missionary board, choir member, volunteer, and ardent supporter of church-related causes and events. Charlotte loved The Lord and enjoyed reading and studying the bible. She often talked about His faithfulness and heaven. Her faith was a true pillar throughout her life. Charlotte enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She experienced extensive national and international travel with notable trips to Africa, Europe, and Mexico. She also enjoyed discussing current events and participating in and laughing at a great story. Those who remain to cherish her memory include: Sisters, Jeanine C. Smith of Chesapeake, VA; Marilyn C. Anderson of Hephzibah, GA; adopted Sisters, Diane Pettus of Chesapeake, VA; and Christine Turner of Norfolk, VA; Brothers, John E. Creekmur (Gloria) of Chesapeake, VA; Edwin T. Creekmur (Iris) of Portsmouth, VA; and, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
