Catherine Wyman

Catherine Wyman, at the blessed age of 95, passed away peacefully at her home in Chesapeake Virginia on December 17, 2021. Catherine was born on March 13, 1926, to the late David and Ethel (Johnson) Williams of Littleton, North Carolina. During her early years, Catherine assisted with farming and attending to the needs of her 10 siblings. Cooking became Catherine’s profession and way of loving, blending and mending friendships and family. More than a dreamer, young Catherine set out for the city life of Baltimore, ready to explore an adventurous life. She was swept off her feet by the tall, dark and handsome man of her dreams, Herman Wyman, who eventually whisked her away to Norfolk, Virginia. Following the birth and early development of their four adorable children in Norfolk, Herman and Catherine would move their forever home to the city of Chesapeake, Virginia. Farming became an additional part of her life, making Catherine a top-notch domesticated engineer. Realizing that she needed a place to honor and serve her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Catherine became a member of New Mount Olive Baptist Church of Chesapeake pastored by Reverend and First Lady Walter Mitchell. She was a faithful servant to her church and deaconess ministry until her health declined; however, her relationship with God never ceased but continued to soar. Preceding her in death are Catherine’s loving and devoted husband, Herman, her youngest son, Nathaniel Odell Wyman and her 10 siblings: Ethel Henderson, Mary Dunston, Jesse Harris, Lou Ella Wiley, Elijah Williams, Charlie Williams, Isaiah Williams, Travel Williams and Francis Williams. Catherine leaves to cherish fond memories: 2 daughters Elizabeth Wyman Lucas (Bill) of Chesapeake Virginia and Gloria Jean Wyman of Portsmouth, Virginia; 1 son, Herman Sylvester Wyman (Jacquelynn) of Norfolk Virginia; 1 daughter in-law, Phyllis Wyman of Baltimore Maryland; 9 grandchildren, 2 of whom she helped raise; Tawanda Bunn (Rodney) of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Captain Terrence Benn-Dothard (Vincent) of Howard County, Maryland and 2 special neighbors, Mrs. Gertrude Pippin and Mrs. Mary Brooks; 5 great grandchildren and a host of beautiful nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends. Mrs. Catherine Wyman loved God and family with all of her heart, soul, mind and strength. Blessed be the name of the Lord
