Obituary:
Portsmouth-Essex Bee Tolliver, 69, of the 1900 block of Laigh Circle, was born May 21, 1941 in Norfolk County, Virginia and attended school in Norfolk County. After school he met Gladys Frances McGlone and married her in 1963 and with this union they had a daughter, Paula Tolliver Kinard. Essex worked very hard to make sure his daughter had an education and a successful life. After Gladys died, he married Louise Bivens and they enjoyed 30 years of marriage. Essex was a dedicated worker and loved working as a foreman at Precon Construction Company. He thought very highly of Preston Sussell, the owner of Precon Construction Company and his longtime friend. Essex worked at Precon from January 1986 until May 2008 and received the President’s Award for his excellent service. Essex leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Paula who he loved dearly; his grandson, Andrew Corey Jackson of whom he was very proud of and his son in law, Willie Kinard, Jr.of whom he said was a good husband to his daughter. Also left to cherish his memories are his sister, Evanne White who he loved so much and tormented at the same time and his brother, Ronnie Elliot. He will be truly missed by his nephew, Lynndale Carver and three nieces, Kesia Stevenson (Charles), Melissa Elliot and Ann Johnson. Essex was preceded in death by his sister, Catherine Booker. Before Essex’s death, he enjoyed spending quality time with his family, eating crabs, shooting the breeze and giving everyone a hard time. He will be truly missed by his close family and friends.
