Portsmouth-James Therman Smith, Jr., also known as JT, 74, was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 3, 2010 in Denver, Colorado where had been residing for some time. He was born to the late James Therman Smith, Sr. and Pearl (Crump) Smith. JT graduated from I C Norcom High School. He later joined and retired from the United States Air Force after 20 years of service.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Christa Y. Johnson (Kevin), six sisters, one brother; three grandchildren, Tayontrae, Kevin Jr., and Kameron; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Viewing will be held on Sunday, June 13, 2010 from 4 pm until 7 pm at J. T. Fisher Funeral Services, 1080 N George Washington Hwy., Chesapeake. A life celebration service will be held at 11am on Monday, June 14, 2010 at New Testament Church, 403 Rapidan Street, Portsmouth where the Pastor is Overseer Jerome Williams. Burial will be in the Albert G. Horton, Jr Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Suffolk. Family and friends will assemble at 115 Stoney Ridge Avenue, Suffolk one hour prior to the service.
