On Saturday, January 9, 2010 at her home in Chesapeake, Virginia. Catherine Rodgers Ward answered the call and went home quietly to be with the Lord. She was born, September 3, 1925 in Portsmouth, Virginia to the Late Isaiah and Ethel Rodgers. She was a dedicated member of Union Bethel COGIC, Portsmouth, Virginia for more than 40 years where she was an Evangelist Missionary, Coordinator of the Prayer Line Ministry and a member of other church organizations and activities.
She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Elder Aaron Ward. Catherine R. Ward “Mama” leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Earnestine Spires (Eugene) of Glen Burnie, Maryland and Dr. Robert Ward (Mary) of Laurel, Maryland; Supt. Irvin Ward (Barbara) of Lynchburg, Virginia and Doris Benson (Louis) of Chesapeake, Virginia. She leaves to treasure seven grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; sixteen great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, one brother-in-law, James Ward, relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends at Union Bethel COGIC, 3223 Airline Blvd., Portsmouth, Virginia on Thursday from 5 pm to 7 pm. A life celebration service will be conducted Friday, January 15, 12 noon at Cathedral of Faith COGIC, host pastor, Dr. G. Wesley Hardy with the Supt. I. L. Ward, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
