Obituary:
Leon Hayes III departed this life on December 18, 2009. He was born at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, VA on March 4, 1984 to his proud parents, Leon Jr. and Vanessa R. Hayes. He was educated in the Portsmouth Public School System and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in June 2002. He also attended Norfolk State University. He attended The Mosque 57 of the Islamic Faith, striving to live according to his beliefs and the teachings of his religion. He was currently employed at Waco Scaffolding & Equipment. Quiet by nature, Leon was a happy, loving person who enjoyed life. He played little league sports as a young man, adopting the “49ers” as his favorite team. He also had a great love for family and friends, sharing many special moments and happy times with his sister and younger brother who he nicknamed “Fred”. The joy of Leon’s life was his four year old daughter, Jasmine. Leon was a passionate father, son and brother. He was also a loving grandchild, nephew, cousin and friend to many. Leon is survived by his daughter, Jasmine Hayes and her mother, Tonya Gregory; his parents, Leon Jr. and Vanessa R. Hayes; sister, Marquita L. Hayes; brother, Siddiq J. Hayes; maternal grandparents Rayford and Louise Norris; paternal grandfather, Leon Hayes Sr. of Chillicothe, OH; many aunts, uncles, cousins, a special friend, Jeremy Triplett and a host of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his maternal grandmother, Aslee Hayes; two aunts, Jean Marie Birden and Betty Jean Bowman and one uncle, Wesley Earl Hayes. Leon’s life was seemingly short; but he has left behind a legacy and many loving memories. He will be dearly loved and missed by all forever.
